Show 8pm . $15 adv/$20 day of show

Goulash Comedy is teaming with the Literacy Council of Central/North Alabama for a comedy benefit show to help the council raise money for the upcoming year.

The comedy show is called Book Report!

Comedians are assigned a book they have never read and then give a report on the book. There are a panel of local celeb “teachers” who grade each comedian’s book report. The winner takes home a prize!

This show is an amazing time for fans of comedy and literature!

Here is a little about the Literacy Council:

The Literacy Council’s vision is one of a community in which each person achieves his or her maximum literacy potential. We work to achieve this vision through our mission to develop, strengthen and support Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages services in Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair, Shelby, and Walker Counties.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, approximately 16% of adults in the State of Alabama are functionally illiterate. That means there are more than 92,000 adults in Central Alabama who do not read well enough to earn a GED or fill out a job application or understand the label on a prescription bottle. Illiteracy is a personal tragedy for the person as well as a public dilemma for our community. Many of our state’s ills can be directly attributed to our low levels of education. Of those 92,000 functionally illiterate adults, some are working in menial jobs, some are in prisons or homeless shelters, and many more are living on welfare. If we could teach these adults to read, what changes would we see in their lives? What changes would we see in our communities?

Help us change Alabama and have fun while doing it!

Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented situation.  Our ability to present shows, or to reschedule them, has seemingly been changing daily.   During this time we have been evaluating the scale and scope for all of our shows, and are now able to provide information regarding rescheduled dates & refunds.
For shows that have been rescheduled: we encourage you to hold on to your tickets, as they will still be valid for the new date. We can’t wait to see y’all soon! If you are unable to make the new date, check your inbox for an email from Eventbrite which includes information on how to request a refund.

For shows that have been cancelled: You will receive an email from Eventbrite & receive a refund.  We realize that a delay for refunds on shows that have yet to be rescheduled is an inconvenience, but this process enables us to provide refunds fairly, and hopefully without disruption.     We also know how frustrating it can be to wait for answers, so thanks for bearing with us.   Stay well, stay safe, and we will see you all soon.
